With Weedmaps on the magnifying glass, the marijuana business might slow down if not put on hold. By this, you would be thinking on what will happen to Weedmaps delivery. The reason behind this is the California Bureau of Cannabis Control crackdown on unlicensed cannabis retailers.
The Weedmaps Question
Weedmaps has a vast nationwide database of marijuana sellers, dispensary storefronts, delivery services, and dealers. This site is the perfect go-to resource when looking for doctors specializing in medical marijuana usage aside from having a trove of information for cannabis brands.
The problem started with the discovery that not all Weedmaps delivery, dispensaries or related businesses are legitimate. Meaning, there are unlicensed marijuana businesses that have been included in the database. This goes to show that there is an unfair practice going on within the Weedmaps administration or they can claim some names on the list as part of erroneous entries.
Advertising unlicensed competitors is not a new thing as not all sites advertize legit marijuana businesses. There are flaws in other databases as well. Revenues coming from the advertising is huge and that’s why the offers are very tempting.
It is true that the cannabis industry has helped raise the economy in some states, however, to be fair to the legitimate businesses that went through strict compliance to gain their licenses, unlicensed businesses must be taken down.
States that have Legitimized the Sale of Marijuana
There are nine states in the US that have legitimized the use of marijuana whether it is for medicinal or recreational purposes. These states include Alaska, Washington, Vermont, Oregon, and Washington, DC; Maine, Nevada, Colorado, Massachusetts, and California.
Restrictions on Cannabis Sale
In Alaska, adults aged 21 years and above can possess, transport, and use a maximum of an ounce. Vermont adults are allowed to carry the same amount and can grow up to two plants for recreational purposes as well as in Massachusetts but allows for growing the plant of not more than 12 in their backyard.
Washington State allows its citizens to hold but not exceeding an ounce of marijuana, you can smoke cannabis but cannot grow it for recreational purposes. If it is used for medicinal purposes, one must qualify to obtain a grower’s license.
Colorado passed more restrictive laws. It only allows for an eight-gram concentrate or an ounce for tourists and residents of 21 years and above when purchasing.
Washington, DC permits possession of not more than two ounces and an ounce meant as a gift as long as there is no exchange of goods, services, or money involved.
If you’re in Nevada, you must live 25 miles farther from a nearby dispensary to be qualified to grow marijuana at home. Both tourists and residents above 21 can purchase an ounce or an eighth worth of concentrate or edibles.
Oregon residents can carry an ounce of cannabis and allowed to grow four plants the most.
It’s okay to carry or possess 2.5 ounces of cannabis in Maine which doubles the limit of that from other states.
Being first in legalizing marijuana sale back in 1996, California became increasingly pot-friendly in 2016; permitting adults to carry an ounce of marijuana. Purchasing the drug up to 8 grams of concentrates is permitted and growing not more than 6 plants for every household is legal.
In contrast, Bakersfield, Fresno and other Central Valley cities moved against selling marijuana for recreational purposes.
